    The Production Planning Manager is responsible for the planning, ordering, and control of raw materials and components and production of products to meet company objectives and customer requirements. Works to maintain raw materials and components at the optimal level while maintaining on time delivery to production. Manages finish goods inventory levels while meeting customer requirements.


    • Evaluate & prioritize business demands.
    • Direct and establish a capacity plan that meets forecasted demand for finished products and levels workload according to material, machinery and manpower resources.
    • Coordinate and review production capacities and determine if plant overtime is needed.
    • Establish production priorities.
    • Maintain and review the production plan in order to adjust for forecast changes and unexpected sales.
    • Consult and communicate with Purchasing and manage the required changes using materials resource planning [MRP] system for information and data on present and future demand of product and materials
    • Monitor and order materials on time, while keeping inventory levels low enough so that we maintain a ‘just in time’ business philosophy.
    • Maintain Accurate Bills of Materials.
    • Maintain finished goods inventory within established control limits to support demand.
    • Monitor components to assure availability when needed to maintain continuous workflow to production lines while maintaining proper inventory levels.
    • Provide & implement strategic plan to meet daily and future requirements to maximize production output.
    • Manage component / chemical inventories for assigned programs and fully utilize the MRP systems and all other available tools such as the weekly shortage report to adjust production schedules to meet unexpected sales.
    • Interact and communicate on a daily basis with Purchasing, Production, R&D, Marketing, and Sales to provide vital information needed to maintain proper inventory levels and service to the customer.
    • Perform obsolescence and surplus inventory review, analysis and disposition.
    • Request from R&D and Marketing any future potential for use up plans on materials.
    • Work to reclaim obsolete components for use in future formulas or new program launches.
    • Responsible for all MDA’s [Material Destruction] to have material destroyed and removed from our inventory thereby freeing up warehouse space.
    • Manage new program launches – roll outs and communicate timelines with Operation, Marketing and Sales so that programs ship on time.
    • Manage program run outs so as to minimize residual liabilities.
    • Regularly interacts and communicates with various internal departments to provide vital information that may be needed to meet business demands.
    • Suggest efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures and assist with the implementation of changes within the manufacturing facility.
    • Direct, coordinate and monitor the daily activities & performance standards for Production Planners to assure compliance of standard Company policies, procedures, quality and safety. Coach and develop team in balancing the delivery of high productivity, quality and customer service. Maintain a positive and safe work environment. Oversee employee relations and participate in staff selection, performance and compensation evaluations, corrective action and terminations, as necessary.
    • Establish performance goals, monitor progress and provide feedback as necessary. Manage employee performance through motivation, delegation, development, mentoring and resolving conflict. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Develop, provide and/or coordinate training as needed. Consult with Human Resources Department as appropriate.
    • Conduct regular department meetings to foster employee engagement, communicate any changes to company policies and procedures, address employee concerns, foster idea sharing and suggestions for improvement.



    • Bachelor’s degree in business, materials management or equivalent experience.


    • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing and or production planning


    • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and professional interactive skills are necessary to perform at a high degree of proficiency. Ability to write reports, and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and inter-department staff. Capable of working with peers and associates from other departments in a proactive and constructive manner. Ability to successfully engage and work in team discussions and meetings.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply & divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
    • Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to execute multiple initiatives autonomously.
    • Strong proficiency with basic computer hardware and software, PeopleSoft Enterprise System or other similar MRP planning/ purchasing / inventory software.
    • Ability to apply all relevant policies in a consistent, timely and objective manner.
    • Planning / Organization - Ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities/deadlines and shift priorities as necessary. Capable of working with peers and associates from other departments in a proactive and constructive manner. Uses time effectively.

    • Proficient use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook). Ability to learn and apply Guest Supply technology software and programs.

    • This position primarily works in a manufacturing office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
    • Limited travel (<10%) may be required to attend company events, staff meetings, training sessions, customer meetings and/or industry or vendor trade shows.
    • May be required to utilize personal vehicle for business travel that may result in long periods of sitting. Must maintain a valid driver license and provide proof of current automobile insurance coverage as set forth by Sysco.
    • This position may require evening and weekend work depending on business needs.
