    The Quality Control Inspection Supervisor is responsible for developing quality inspection processes and supervising staff performing Quality Control functions for incoming packaging components, purchased finished goods and production finished goods to ensure that Quality Standards are both set and met. Identifies out-of-specification materials. Writes and follows up on non-conformance reports to complete containment and corrective actions both internally and with suppliers.
    The Quality Control Inspection Supervisor also supervises Quality Inspection staff that support business functions by setting and monitoring quality standards for incoming packaging components, purchased finished goods and production finished goods. Audits production inspection processes to ensure that standards and specifications are met for all items.
    Additionally, the Quality Control Inspection Supervisor monitors production activities to ensure that established processes are followed, that both business and Quality requirements are being met continuously, and supports new product introductions into the manufacturing operation.

    Responsibilities

    • Select, train and supervise Rahway Quality Control staff across all three shifts to: set finished-goods standards and specifications in Bills of Materials and work orders, before production is started; audit ongoing production to ensure that finished-goods Quality requirements are met. Resolve production problems by dealing directly with Production and Maintenance employees and supervision.
    • Select, train and supervise Sayreville Quality Control staff to inspect incoming packaging components and purchased finished goods to ensure that the needs of Warehouse staff are met and that Quality specifications are achieved.
    • Supervise both Sayreville and Rahway staff in measuring statistical parameters of packaging components to determine if mechanical adjustments need to be made to production filling / packaging equipment to get packaging components to run efficiently.
    • Work directly with both Maintenance and Production to determine how to resolve production problems with packaging components that do not meet specifications.
    • Work with Quality representatives from packaging component companies to ensure that corrective actions are taken by these suppliers, when non-conforming components are received.
    • Write, supervise and train staff in writing of SOPs, non-conformance reports and quality incident reports. Track and follow up to ensure that containment and corrective actions are taken, when finished goods or packaging components do not meet specifications, or when process deviations occur.
    • Oversee Rahway staff to ensure that appropriate samples for micro and chemical analyses are taken.
    • Review Rahway and Sayreville production batch records to ensure that procedures were followed correctly, that specifications were met and that records are accurate and complete.
    • Manage employee performance through motivation, delegation, development, mentoring and resolving conflict. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Participate in staff selection, performance and compensation evaluations, corrective action and terminations, as necessary. Consult with Human Resources Department as appropriate.
    • Conduct regular department or pre-shift meetings to foster employee engagement, communicate any changes to company policies and procedures, address employee concerns, foster idea sharing and suggestions for improvement.
    • Conduct regular audits to ensure all required inspections and documentation are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Provide & maintain a safe working environment. Coordinate efforts with Safety department to aid in training, conducting staff observations, updating preferred work methods, conducting accident investigations to determine root causes and routine safety inspections.
    • Assure compliance with all company and local, state and federal regulatory agencies’ (i.e., OSHA and FDA) policies and regulations.
    • Regularly interact and communicate with various internal departments to provide vital information that may be necessary to meet business demands.
    • Suggest efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures and assist with the implementation of changes within the facility.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM EDUCATION, INCLUDING DEGREES & CERTIFICATIONS:

    • BA/BS degree in engineering, a physical science or related field.
    • Quality Engineer certification is highly desired.

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE (YEARS & TYPE OF EXPERIENCE):

    • 5 years’ experience inspecting personal care or related products, including 2 years supervising staff in inspecting products.
    • 2 years’ experience related to inspecting packaging components.

    SKILLS & ABILITIES (TYPE & PROFICIENCY):

    • Excellent knowledge of auditing functions.
    • Basic knowledge of quality engineering and statistics.
    • Excellent math skills.
    • Ability to read and interpret component blueprints and artwork.
    • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and professional interactive skills are necessary to perform at a high degree of proficiency. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and inter-department staff. Capable of working with peers and associates from other departments in a proactive and constructive manner.
    • Leadership skills – Ability to mentor and develop individuals and teams. Able to engage and lead individual and team discussions and meetings. Understands team dynamics and works well within a team structure. Collaborative management style. Delegates responsibilities effectively.
    • Ability to provide effective training to department staff on areas such as SOP’s, Safety, Conduct, etc.
    • Ability to apply all relevant policies in a consistent, timely and objective manner.

    • While this position will primarily work in a manufacturing environment, this position will require travel. There is very limited overnight travel required and specifically pertains to company events, staff meetings, training sessions & vendor fairs. May be required to utilize personal vehicle for business travel that may result in long periods of sitting.
    • If working remote, must have required software to ensure timely communications.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
    • This position may require evening and weekend work depending on business needs.
    • This position is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, elevated ambient temperature, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions.
